Chrystal St. John

Chrystal St. John has been employed with the City of Ashville since September 2013.  She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from JSU.  Chrystal began her career in Accounting in 1998 in the healthcare field and has held various positions which have strengthened her finance, leadership and management skills.  Chrystal is married to Rusty St. John and they have two amazing daughters, Rachel and Lexi. Rachel is currently attending JSU and Lexi is a student athlete at Ashville High School. 

As a City Clerk her professional functions include being a liaison for all official actions between the City Council and the Mayor. The City Clerk prepares the bi-weekly Council agendas, attends council meetings and certifies actions taken by the Council. Ordinances, Resolutions, and Proclamations are only a few of the official documents that are prepared by the City Clerk. The City Clerk is responsible for conducting all city elections and maintaining the local voters list. The City Clerk also maintains public records for various departments of the city. In addition, the City Clerk assists the Mayor in preparing the annual budget and is responsible for the financial reports to the city council.

Additional responsibilities of the City Clerk include, but are not limited to the preparation of payroll, preparation of Accounts Payables, and overseeing the other Administrative Departments of the City. Preparation of public hearings for the Zoning Board of Adjustments and the Planning and Zoning Commission also falls under the duties of the City Clerk.

As in all cities, the City Clerk is responsible for many functions within the city and is always willing to help with any questions or concerns.
